Hotter N Hell 2016

I am a sucker for beautiful clouds. We saw these in KS on the way to OK.

Storm clouds in our future!
We stopped at probably the coldest gas station ever.  It felt like 30 degrees. You just wanted to do your business and get out.

In the storm!
It was raining so hard I had to drive 25 mph.  Forget cats and dogs, it was cows and horses.
Spectacular lightning show.

We stopped for dinner at a wonderful cafe that was filled with antiques.  Right up my alley.  We saw this pic in the bathroom.

Here is a view of part of the cafe. It was fun to walk around and see everything. Looks like a Schwinn Black Phantom hanging from the ceiling?

After staying in an OK hotel in Lawton, OK we headed off to TX!  Here we are at the falls.  Manmade but still pretty.
Yucky water.
A gal with a recumbant took our pic.  Her bike would have rolled into the river if the curb hadn't been there!

Our spectacular host home where we met our wonderful hosts.  Such sweet people.  They made us feel right at home and really made our weekend a true vacation.

6:00 a.m. and we were off to the start line.  Our host's neighbor showed us the way to a great parking spot.  It was fun to see so many people out with bikes this early and to listen to the music piped out onto the street all along the route.

This was my view of the start line. So well organized. After the other groups left, the truck pulled out and let us go.  It would have been perfect except for the one shaky rider next to me.  I survived.  After that it was just like any other ride. Easier than the Corporate Cycling Challenge start

TX is like a moon scape compared to home.  I was told these are mesquite bushes.  The indiginous ones have one trunk. All these others are invaders.
It was weird to see all the oil wells.  Not in Kansas anymore Toto.

Best care ever for an owie on my finger.  They did a good job. It healed very quickly.

My bandaide.
By the way, my new white arm coolers worked great.  They really do reflect heat.

We sat and talked to this kid at one of the aide stations.  He had never ridden this far and was hurting. He was still in good spirits. We told him he wasnt drinking enough. I hope he keeps riding and his wife joins him someday. He is such a nice guy and spoke with such caring words about her.
He has my respect.

This little gal can take the pain!
Look at these tattoos!
They really were pretty in person.

Action selfie.
Look how hilly it is!
We were going into the wind.
It was just terrible.
(Not)
It was a perfect day to ride.

Goofing off at the air force base.
The italian guy was adorable.
Love a guy with an accent.
The pilots were entertaining to talk to and had interesting info.

All done.
Getting the official pic.
Such nice people on the ride
We had a great time.
